Topolanek (Civic Democrats, ODS) said previously that Liska could be appointed to the coalition government, comprising also the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), next week after an agreement with President Vaclav Klaus. Liska told journalists that he might be appointed minister on Monday. Eight-hour-long stormy debate in the Greens broader leadership preceded Liska's approval today. Critics within the party blamed Bursik for concentrating too much power in his hands and circumventing the party's bodies. Bursik dismissed the criticism. The way Bursik pushed through Liska's nomination also escalated tension in the party. Former education minister Dana Kuchtova, who resigned in October in reaction to the ministry's troubles with the programmes for drawing money from EU funds, first wanted Greens deputy Olga Zubova, another potential candidate for the ministry's helm, to present her ideas to the council, along with Liska. However, the Greens' presidium decided on Liska's nomination on Monday, and Zubova gave up her intention. The Greens' coalition partners as well as the left opposition have indicated they are satisfied with the candidacy of Liska who has experience from Brussels. However, Klaus has expressed fears of Liska's low age.
