Klaus is also preferred by 43 percent of voters of the Social Democrats (CSSD) whose leadership is considering nominating Svejnar. Klaus is favoured by one half of the following of the Communists (KSCM) who may also support Svejnar. Czechs mostly criticised Klaus for his public performance (64 percent).
The reservation was followed by the objection that he has been too long in politics (40 percent) and he "is too old" (13 percent). Klaus is 66. In the case of Svejnar's the criticism focused on his not living permanently in the Czech Republic (72 percent). Svejnar say he will finally make up his mind after meeting Czech senior politicians during this week. Svejnar, whose family defected to the West in 1970, has both Czech and U.S. citizenships. Czech president is elected by the parliament.
