Greens nominate Zlatuska as Czech education minister - press ... David Rath, deputy chairman of the deputy group of the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD), said on Prima he would initiate election by acclamation.
CSSD deputy group chairman Michal Hasek said he is not opposed to such initiative, but added that the group will discuss it.
"In cases where a vote is taken on people, it should be secret, with the exception of special situations such as was the demonstrative election of Vaclav Havel in 1989 [after the fall of the previous regime]," Tluchor said.
He said voting on concrete problems is something different since citizens have the right to know how their representatives vote.
The ODS wants to re-elect its honorary chairman, the incumbent President Vaclav Klaus.
The CSSD, the junior government Greens and apart of the junior government Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) support his opponent, economist Jan Svejnar.
KDU-CSL deputy group chairwoman Michael Sojdrova said she would not be opposed to voting by acclamation.
She said the advantage of election by secret ballot is that the candidate is not bound anyhow to his electors.
Katerina Jacques, Greens deputy group chairwoman, supported secret ballot, but said her party would like the next president to be elected directly by citizens.
