He said Bobosikova has accepted the nomination offer. Czech president is elected jointly by the two houses of parliament.
Like in last weekend's first, inconclusive election, the KSCM could to a large extent influence the second election's outcome. Kovacik said the KSCM MPs decided to nominate Bobosikova, 43, after a long discussion. Most KSCM lawmakers supported the step, he said. Kovacik said the "last straw" to determine its decision was today's statement of Katerina Jacques, head of the deputies for the junior ruling By fielding Bobosikova KSCM helps re-elect Klaus - CSSD ...

Jacques might have reacted to the KSCM's previous statement, cited by the daily Mlada fronta Dnes, that the KSCM may support the SZ's favourite candidate, liberal economist Jan Svejnar, if the SZ and the senior opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) pledge not to support the defence radar base the U.S. plans to install southwest of Prague. Asked by reporters whether the KSCM's nomination of Bobosikova would not contribute to the election of Vaclav Klaus, the incumbent president who seeks re-election, supported by the senior governing Civic Democrats (ODS), Kovacik said this [Klaus's success] is "not up to the Communists." Earlier today the KSCM MPs vowed not to support Klaus, but did not directly voice support for Svejnar, promoted by the CSSD, the SZ and some independent senators. Kovacik said the KSCM will try to negotiate parties' support for Bobosikova now. He did not rule out, however, that the KSCM could discuss the candidate Svejnar as well. KSCM chairman Vojtech Filip said Bobosikova has voiced her wish for the February 15 presidential election to be attended by former Czech president Vaclav Havel and former prime minister Milos Zeman, who has left the CSSD over mutual discord a few months ago. As a reason for her wish Bobosikova (an independent MEP) reportedly said Prague Castle should be a site of concord. Filip said he would address Zeman and Havel in this connection.
