Deutsche Post has declined to comment on media reports that Zumwinkel is being investigated by the authorities on suspected tax evasion charges as prosecutors searched his offices at the company's Bonn headquarters as well as his private villa in Cologne.
According to German broadcaster ZDF, authorities have issued an arrest warrant against the 64-year-old.

Bonn The broadcaster reported that Zumwinkel, who has been at the helm of Deutsche Post since 1990, is suspected of evading taxes by placing more than 10 million euros ($14.6 million) in a bank account in Liechtenstein. State prosecutors have apparently been investigating the charges for months.
A few newspapers, including London's
Financial Times ,
have reported that Zumwinkel, whose contract at Deutsche Post runs until November, may step down.
Zumwinkel, who oversaw Deutsche Post's initial public offering more than seven years ago, is one of the most high-profile German CEOs. He is also the chairman of Deutsche Telekom's supervisory board, previously served as the head of the Quelle group, a German mail-order company, and was a senior partner at consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
Deutsche Post, which has a work force of over 500,000, is the world's seventh-largest employer and includes logistics and shipping company DHL.
