Supreme State Attorney's Office made no mistake. However, the ministry assessed merely the procedure in the case, not the fact that it was halted because it said it was not authorised to assess the decision. Vesecka asked the ministry in January to check whether she or any of her subordinates violated law in connection with the investigation into Cunek's case. Vesecka reacted to the information in the media that one of her subordinates had frequently been in phone contact with Miloslav Slouf, who is considered an influential grey eminence. Cunek who resigned as deputy prime minister over the case last autumn had been accused of bribe-taking. The protracted investigation has produced a lot of controversy and it has become a point of heated disputes between political parties. The Christian Democrats now want Cunek to return to the cabinet because his case was definitively shelved. Prime Minister and senior coalition Civic Democrats (ODS) chairman Mirek Topolanek said last week that Cunek can return to the cabinet if his party wants it. Cunek is negotiating his planned government comeback with Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg (for the Greens) who previously threatened to leave the cabinet if Cunek's rejoined it, Greens MP Katerina Jacques said on Sunday.
