Chelsea landed in a snowstorm on Sunday, hours before the city airport closed, and workers spent Monday clearing the Karaiskaki Stadium pitch.
• Chelsea manager Avram Grant:
"If you want to become a bigger club, you must be in the final and then do more.
"You cannot say we are getting bigger if we don't get to the final, so that's the target. Our target was to do it in two years but now we want it this year.
"We need to go step by step. I will not rest until we get to the final."
BIG MATCH STATS
This will be the first ever meeting between Olympiacos and Chelsea in European competition.
European history
Olympiacos' best ever result in the Champions League is reaching the quarter-finals in 1998-99 when they were eliminated by Juventus. Since then, they have failed to successfully negotiated the CL group phase until now. Olympiacos also reached the last eight in the 1992-93 Cup Winners' Cup, only to be eliminated by Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea's biggest successes in European competition are their two Cup Winners' Cup victories 1971 and 1998. They also won the European Super Cup in 1998. In the Champions League, Chelsea have reached the semi-finals three times in 2004, 2005 and 2007. The Londoners have been eliminated once in their four appearances at this knockout stage (by FC Barcelona in 2005-06).
Current European form
Olympiacos are unbeaten in their last four Champions League home matches. Their last CL home defeat dates back to 18 October 2006 against AS Roma (0-1).
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last six CL matches. They join FC Barcelona and Manchester United as the only unbeaten sides in the 2007-08 Champions League. Their last CL defeat dates back to 1 May 2007, when they lost 1-0 at Liverpool. Chelsea have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four CL matches, and have conceded only two goals in six matches, which makes the Blues' defence the best so far in this competition.
