The former owner of the Daily Telegraph was convicted of three counts of fraud and one of obstructing justice.
His lawyers had asked a Chicago court to allow him to remain free on a bond while judges consider an appeal against his conviction.
Conrad Black was cleared of eight further fraud counts and one charge of racketeering.
