Possible presidential candidate unknown to half of Czechs ... to Snitily's vote. Snitily, accompanied by bodyguards, took part in the meeting which media representatives were not allowed to attend. He said today he wanted to defend his step at the meeting. Snitily was already expelled from the CSSD deputies' group shortly before the election in mid-February after he said he would vote for Klaus, promoted by the arch rival Civic Democrats (ODS), while the CSSD supported the other candidate, liberal economist Jan Svejnar. The CSSD leaders called on Snitily to resign from his mandate of a deputy. Snitily refused it. He has been a member of parliament since 1996. The CSSD said previously it feared that Snitily would join MPs Michal Pohanka and Milos Melcak who left the CSSD last year and who support the coalition government. However, Snitily said earlier he remains a social democrat, indicating he would vote with the CSSD in key issues. Snitily, a father of seven, and some other lawmakers received threatening letters with bullets between the first and the second presidential elections. He is now protected by bodyguards.
