Czech diplomacy has already indicated it will accept the independence of the former Serbian province of Kosovo sooner or later. Schwarzenberg (for Greens) would like the Czech Republic Czech-U.S.

to recognise Kosovo's independence by the NATO summit in Bucharest that starts on April 2, Pravo writes. However, Czech President Vaclav Klaus warned against the international recognition of Kosovo's independence during his recent visit to Bratislava. Klaus reiterated his previous fears that the agreement with the February unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence might be used as precedent abroad. Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17. Since then over 30 countries have recognised it, including all large EU countries except for Spain. Russia and Slovakia are among the countries that oppose Kosovo's independence. Serbia has repeatedly said it will never recognise independent Kosovo.
