Russia's biggest political party, United Russia, has announced it will create a new post of party chairman and offer the job to outgoing President Vladimir Putin.
Party Chief Boris Gryzlov told reporters at a news conference in Moscow that Putin will be offered the post at its party conference this week. United Russia, controls the lower house of parliament and has close ties to the Kremlin. Putin steps down as president on May 7. His elected successor, Dmitry Medvedev has already said he would appoint Putin as a powerful prime minister.
