German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged Russia's newly elected lower house of parliament to support reforms of the European Court of Human Rights.
The reforms would fast track cases of human rights violations and are aimed at relieving the court of a backlog of some 80,000 cases. Merkel made the appeal at a meeting of the 47 member Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
