KSCM leader Vojtech Filip, who will run for re-election, will have at least two opponents, KSCM deputy chairman Jiri Dolejs told CTK. Former KSCM long-serving chairman Miroslav Grebenicek may also seek political comeback. According to Dolejs, Filip's official opponents in the fight for the party chairmanship will be deputy Stanislav Grospic and Czech Communist claim their 1948 coup legacz ...
Czech KSCM does not pledge support to Klaus, will decide Thursday ... Czech MEP Miloslav Ransdorf.
While Ransdorf is an experienced politician, Grospic, 43, is little known to the public. It cannot be ruled out that Filip's predecessor Grebenicek who, according to many party members, stabilised the KSCM and turned it into a mainstream party, may seek comeback. Grebenicek who resigned over disputes in the party in January 2005 told CTK today he learnt about his nomination for chairman from Filip. He said he would consult the question with his local branch and would inform the relevant commission about his decision at the congress. The daily Lidove noviny writes today that Grebenicek has been nominated for chairman by the KSCM Litomerice branch, north Bohemia. He told the daily he had been surprised at the fact that someone in the party still remembers him. "When I was leaving the post of chairman I said I took my departure seriously. But as the propose I have received is meant seriously I do not want to downplay it," Grebenicek told LN. "It is my duty to consult it with my local branch and also with the regional party organisation and I will inform congress delegates about my decision," Grebenicek, who led the KSCM for 12 years, said. More candidates will run for KSCM deputy chairpersons. According to Dolejs, there will be about twenty of them, including KSCM MEP Jiri Mastalka. Current deputy chairmen Dolejs, Karel Klimsa, Cenek Milota and MEP Jana Bystricka will defend their posts at the congress. The Communists have left the fifth position of party deputy chairman vacant since the dismissal of Vaclav Exner at the end of 2006. Exner who was dismissed over the unsuccessful sale of the KSCM Prague headquarters will also seek comeback.
