Pope Benedict XVI has met with a small group of Catholic Church sexual abuse victims during his visit to the United States.
The pontiff met with five victims from the Boston area, seen as the US epicentre of revelations that have plagued the Roman Catholic church since the 1990s. A statement from the Vatican said Benedict prayed with the victims and offered them encouragement, during the 25-minute meeting. Pope Benedict earlier celebrated the first public mass of his visit at Washington's new baseball stadium. More than 46,000 people participated. On Wednesday he met with President George W. Bush, and urged Washington to seek peaceful solutions to international conflicts.
