The Qatari prosecutor general halted Sani's prosecution in January. Prague district court Judge Monika Krikavova who dealt with the case three years ago and then supreme state attorney Marie Benesova (Social Democrats, CSSD) told CT today that people from the Justice Ministry had exerted pressure on them in Sani's case. Benesova mentioned she had felt pressure from then deputies to justice minister Roman Polasek and Vladimir Kral.

Kral still works at the ministry Kral concealed the fact that an application for Sani's extradition to Qatar was submitted before charges were brought against him since in such a case the Supreme State Attorney's Office would be authorised to decide on it. Only after Sani was charged, the extradition was in the Justice Minister's powers, Benesova said. Pospisil (senior ruling Civic Democrats, ODS) said he would check it. The Prague district court sentenced Sani to 2.5 years in prison for having sex with 16 underage and adolescent girls. The court ruled the verdict in spite of Nemec's previous decision to extradite Sani to Qatar for prosecution. A Prague district and city courts stated that Nemec's decision was unlawful. However, the Supreme Court concluded that the law allows the minister to make such a decision. Sani was released from Czech custody and left for Qatar where he was arrested, spent eight days in custody and was investigated for several months before the prosecution was halted.
