Beijing had previously rejected direct contacts with the leadership of exiled Tibetans. China's change of mind has been widely wecomed. Germany's foreign ministry says the intended talks will contribute to resolving conflict in Tibet. French President Nicolas Sarkosy says it's a major step toward dialogue. The US embassy in Beijing has described it as a "very positive development." EU commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, who's visiting Beijing, says he's "very happy" about China's changed stance. The Olympic torch has reached Nagano in Japan. In London, Paris and San Francisco the relay was disrupted by anti-China protestors.
