The electoral commission is playing down reports that President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change are deadlocked over the results. At Thursday's meeting, the commission told the sides that MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai won nearly 48 percent of the vote nearly five weeks ago and that Mugabe finished with 43 percent. The MDC claims to have won 50.3 percent of the vote, which would make a run-off with Mugabe unnecessary.
