Israeli police have questioned Prime Minister Ehud Olmert over new allegations surrounding campaign donations.
According to a statement from Olmert's office, the investigation dealt with donations raised by an American citizen between 1999 and 2002, before Olmert was prime minister. Israeli election finance laws limit donations from abroad. The statement said the foreign money was meant to fund elections for the mayorship of Jerusalem and primaries in Olmert's former political party, Likud. Olmert is already facing other corruption probes relating to his conduct in public offices before he became premier in 2006.
