United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon chaired the meeting between the UN, the US, the EU and Russia, to discuss the effects of Israel's Gaza blockade. Ban said the quartet welcomed "concrete steps by both sides." After the meeting in London, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that although there were many specific issues to be ironed out, progress had been made. She also urged Arab states to honour unfulfilled aid pledges made to the Palestinians.
