Turkey says more than 150 Kurdish PKK rebels have been killed in northern Iraq in air strikes carried out since Thursday.
A statement on the Turkish army website said it destroyed PKK posts in the Qandil area in the operation. It said senior PKK members might have be among those killed. Turkey has stepped up its strikes against PKK targets in northern Iraq in recent weeks. In February, Turkish troops conducted a large-scale incursion across the border. The PKK, which is fighting for an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey, uses northern Iraq as a base to stage attacks on Turkish territory. The US and the European Union consider the PKK a terrorist organisation.
