In the aftermath of Saturday's cyclone in Burma international agencies are pushing to gain access for a massive aid operation. The European Commission's envoy to Burma said the EU body had made just over 1 million Euros immediately available but were still waiting to get into the country.

State officials have put the death toll around 15,000 with another 30,000 people missing. Meanwhile Burma's ruling junta has now said it will postpone a constitutional referendum in the worst hit areas of Rangoon and the Irrawaddy Delta. The rest of the state will still be expected to vote on the Junta's new army-drafted constitution on May 10.
