07.05.2008 - Czechs earmark another 2.5 million crowns in support of Burma
The disaster in Burma claimed the lives of 22,500 and left about a million people homeless.
Aid to Burma will also be provided by Czech humanitarian organisations such as Charita Czech Republic or People in Need.
The ministry said that only a very limited number of NGOs and humanitarian organisations can operate in Burma due to the local political regime.
"Nevertheless, we believe that in view of the serious situation in the country, Burma will more open itself to aid in the days to come, which would enable us to opt for the most effective method of aid," ministry spokeswoman Zuzana Opletalova said.

Now it is to be decided how the rest of the Czech aid will be spent.
"It is important for us that we can oversee our aid really reaching the citizens of Burma in the afflicted areas," Opletalova said.
