The Burmese junta said on Friday it was grateful for international assistance but it would use it own nationals to distribute it. The United Nations has sharply criticised Burma's generals, saying its refusal to let in foreign aid workers was "unprecedented" in the history of humanitarian work. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is seeking talks with the junta's senior general, Than Shwe, to stress the need of acting quickly. The UN estimates that 1.5 million people are "severely affected" by Nargis that swept across central Burma last weekend.
