Gatherings have been held in Berlin and other German cities to mark the 75th anniversary of the book burnings under the Nazi regime. The main event was held at the same square in the capital where the most infamous of the book burnings took place, just months after Adolf Hitler came to power.
The event was organised by Berlin's Humboldt University, Spain's Cervantes Institute and the Berlin Social Democratic Party. Among the works that were burned on May 10, 1933, were books by Berthold Brecht, Franz Kafka, and Sigmund Freud.
