13.05.2008 - Amount of prescribed medicines falls in CzechRep, sale on rise

Benes, the National Institute for Drugs Control (SUKL) director, said the number of the used medicines people receive on doctor's prescription dropped from 94 million to 83 million, a financial decline worth almost one billion crowns. Simultaneously, the use of freely available medicine increased from 33.4 million packagings to 34.4 million, Benes said. The figures indicate that health insurers started to spend more money on cost-intensive medical treatment such as oncological, he said.
