In a rare admission of the extent of the disaster in their country, Burmese military leaders have now raised the number of confirmed dead in a recent cyclone to more than 77,000.
Another 50,000 people are listed as missing. At the same time, German aid agencies are calling for more donations to aid the over two million survivors of Cyclone Nargis in Burma. Manuela Rossbach of Aktion Deutschland Hilft said more than 1,000 local volunteers were working non-stop to provide medical and food aid in the affected areas. Aktion Deutschland Hilft has raised almost two million euros to help the Burmese cyclone victims.
