Czech attorney wants appelate review in communist prosecutor case ... related illnesses, Brozova-Polednova does not take part in the court proceedings and she did not come today either. Supreme State Attorney Renata Vesecka had submitted an appellate review as she disagreed with the verdict of the Prague High Court that stopped the prosecution, saying the case was statute-barred.
It said Brozova-Polednova's role in the trial was not crucial to an extent that would allow for it to be qualified as murder. A lower-level court previously sentenced Brozova-Polednova to eight years in prison for complicity in murder. Vesecka insists on the punishment for Brozova-Polednova. "She largely contributed to the entirely manipulated steps taken by the judiciary of the time," Vesecka said today. The court eventually accepted the view Brozova-Polednova had played an active role in the five-member panel of prosecutors. Brozova-Polednova, now 86, is the first participant in the trial of Horakova to face a trial herself. Horakova, a lawyer by profession, gave up her mandate of Czechoslovak parliament deputy in protest against the Communist takeover in 1948. Later she unsuccessfully initiated concerted efforts of non-Communist parties. She was sentenced to death on the basis of trumped-up charges of treason and espionage and was executed on June 27, 1950, at the age of 49.
