Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has assured officials in Tehran that Iraq will not be used as a base for launching attacks against the Islamic state.
That's according to Iranian state media. Al-Maliki was seeking to allay Iranian concerns over a proposed US-Iraq security agreement. Washington is seeking to finalise a deal that would allow the US to maintain military bases in Iraq long term, and possibly use those bases for military operations against other countries.
