Pejsa said all Czech railway unions agreed on this. Czech engine-drivers announced last week that they would join the strike. The strike has been declared by the umbrella unions CMKOS in protest against government reforms and further planned reform steps. OSZ that represents some 60,000 employees has mainly reservations about changes in the pension system, demanding that some railway employees get retired sooner than at the age of 65. Largest number of children since 1993 born in CzechRep last year ... health care and civil service sectors and of planning further "attacks" on unionists' rights. The unions want the government to reassess its planned reforms of the public budgets and pension systems, and to discuss the development of taxes and changes in the Labour Code with them. During the planned strike, public transport will stop in many regional centres, including Prague. The OSZ has organised the biggest strike in modern Czech history.
In February 1997, transport stopped for five days and about half of Czech Rail (CD) employees joined the protest.
