A high-level diplomatic team from Taiwan is headed to China for the first meeting between the two sides in almost a decade.
Taiwan's top negotiator, Chiang Pin-kung, leads the mission to Beijing. He said the trip is meant to build mutual trust with China. The two sides will talk about starting regular, direct flights between the mainland and the island. Taipei banned air service to China after Nationalist forces fled to the island in 1949.
