Pakistani officials say eleven troops have been killed in an airstrike by US-led forces on a post near the Afghan border.
In a statement, the Pakistani military called the attack "unprovoked and cowardly" and said it could jeopardise cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Security officials said the attack came after Pakistani forces repulsed Afghan troops who had crossed the border and tried to occupy the post. The post was in a tribal area that has long been disputed between the two countries. The incident heightened tensions between Pakistan and US-led forces in Afghanistan, who recently warned that the new government's decision to hold peace talks with Taliban militants in the border region could increase cross-border infiltration.
