Tendai Biti, the secretary-general of the Movement for Democratic Change, was detained upon arriving at Harare International Airport. Before returning, Biti said he had been informed he would be arrested but was not clear what the charges against him were. MDC leader Morgan Tsvnagirai is contesting a presidential run-off election later this month against the incumbent, Robert Mugabe.
