There are conflicting reports on what caused the blast that flattened the home of Ahmed Hamouda, a senior Hamas bomb-maker whose fate is unnkown. Some witnesses said explosives stored inside the building blew up. The militant Hamas claims an Israeli aircraft attacked the house. The Israeli army has denied any involvement. Hamas responded to the incident by launching a series of rocket and mortar attacks on southern Israel. No casualties were reported. The latest violence comes amid Egyptian mediation efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
