US President George W.
Bush is meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. The Pontiff, who usually receives guests in the library at the Apostolic Palace, welcomed the president into the St John's tower in the Vatican Gardens. This is considered a special honour and comes as an apparent gesture of appreciation for the warm welcome Bush gave the German-born Pope in Washington in April.
