Czech government representatives said in reaction to the Irish "no" that it definitely was a complication, but it did not threaten the standard functioning of the EU. Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said the Czech Republic continues to prepare for EU presidency in the first half of next year irrespective of the Irish "no." Senate chairman Premysl Sobotka shares Klaus's view that there is no sense continuing the process of ratification. The Czech Republic has not yet ratified the treaty.
It is not clear whether it would further proceed with the ratification process.
