Afghan and foreign troops are hunting for hundreds of prisoners, including militants, who escaped the main prison in southern Kandahar city after a raid by Taliban insurgents.
Militants used two suicide bombers to blast their way into the compound, before gunmen on motorcycles stormed the prison. Afghanistan's Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the jailbreak, which freed around 1,000 prisoners, including some 400 Taliban fighters. Officials said 15 guards were killed in the raid. Meanwhile, in western Afghanistan, a roadside bomb exploded near a US military vehicle on Saturday, killing four American servicemen in the deadliest attack against US forces in Afghanistan this year.
