On a visit to Ramallah, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has openly criticised Israel's plan to build 1,300 new homes in occupied Palestinian areas near Jerusalem, describing it as harmful for peace efforts.
She said Israel's housing announcement made last week was having a "negative effect". Rice, who's trying to complete a US-led Israel-Palestinian peace deal by January, had talks late on Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. No details of their conversation were made public.
