Chinese officials say flooding in the south of the country has killed at least 112 people and displaced over a million more.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs said that the deaths were reported in 12 provinces. Some of the worst flooding in decades has occurred in the prosperous Pearl River Delta, where parts of the major urban centres of Guangzhou and Shenzhen are under water. The flooding is the third major natural calamity to hit China this year, following fierce snow storms in the south in January and May's devastating earthquake in Sichuan province. Meanwhile, officials are warning that the Yellow River in the north could also cause severe flooding in the near future. Dikes and reservoirs along the river are being strengthened
