European Commission vice-president Günther Verheugen has said that there should be EU picks up pieces following Irish referendum ...
EU's Barroso to Hold Crisis Talks After Irish Treaty Rejection ... no renegotiating of the EU reform treaty with Ireland after Irish voters rejected it last week.
Verheugen said in Brussels that there could be no special rules for Ireland. He said that if the rest of EU members accepted the Lisbon Treaty, one single country could not remain outside of it. Meanwhile, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker warned against putting the Irish government under pressure. He said that the reform treaty, which is meant to bolster the EU's political weight, would probably not come into effect this year as planned.
