Egyptian mediators in Cairo have announced a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas.
The truce is to begin on Thursday morning. The official said this would be the a first phase of mutual and simultaneous calm and that the ceasefire would enter into force despite Israel's killing of at least six Palestinian gunmen in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. The truce aims to end rocket and mortar bomb attacks on Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and Israeli raids in the territory.
