Prosecutors in Equatorial Guinea are requesting a 30-year prison sentence for a former British special forces officer accused of masterminding a failed coup plot.
The attorney general told the court that the charges against Simon Mann were serious enough to merit the death penalty. But an extradition agreement prohibits that. Mann admitted earlier this year of taking part in a plot to overthrow long-time President Teodoro Obiang but said he was not the main man behind it. The Briton was extradited from Zimbabwe in January after four years in prison there.
