South Africa's Business Day newspaper claims that South African President Thabo Mbeki tried to persuade President Robert Mugabe to cancel the run-off and form a government of national unity with the leader of the opposition, MorganTsvangirai. A group of southern African ministers has said Zimbabwe's June 27 poll is unlikely to be free and fair.
