The High Court rebuked the government on Friday for its attempt to ratify the treaty ahead of next week's expected ruling. The British parliament was the first national assembly in the EU to approve the Lisbon Treaty since Irish voters rejected it last week. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to meet with her Czech and Slovak counterparts next week in a bid to shore up faltering support for the treaty among some EU members.
