French President Nicolas Sarkozy has blamed the European Union's trade chief in part for Ireland's rejection of the EU reform treaty.

Meanwhile, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said the problem posed by Ireland's rejection of the treaty cannot be solved quickly. Barroso also said he believed the Lisbon Treaty would ultimately be ratified by all members of the EU, as leaders of the bloc wrapped up two days of talks in Brussels on how to solve the predicament.
