The trial of British mercenary Simon Mann has wrapped up in Equatorial Guinea.
A verdict is expected next week. Prosecutors have asked for a sentence of more than 30 years, but Mann's lawyer argued for leniency, saying that his client had been used as a pawn by powerful international businessmen. Mann is charged with leading a failed coup in to topple the government of President Teodoro Obiang. During the trial, Mann implicated the son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher as a key member of the coup plot. He also said the plan had the tacit approval of Spain and South Africa. The court was also told that a London-based millionaire bankrolled the plan, which aimed to secure access to the country's rich oil reserves.
