The United States says it continues to favour a diplomatic solution to a dispute with Iran over its nuclear programme.
State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters in Washington that the US remained hopeful that Tehran could be convinced to halt its uranium enrichment activities, as demanded by the United Nations Security Council. However he declined to comment on a report that the Israeli air force has carried out a major military exercise, which is believed to have been a test run for a possible attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
