Minister Wants to Raise German Troop Levels in Afghanistan ... have been killed and two others severely wounded by what it called an improvised explosive device in the restive southern province of Kandahar.
It has not stated their nationalities, nor give details of the incident. Last week US-led and Afghan forces said they killed dozens of Taliban insurgents near Kandahar following a mass jail break. Since early June 31 international soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan. German media, meanwhile, say Berlin is preparing to send up to 1,000 extra soldiers to Afghanistan. Germany currently has 3,500 Bundeswehr troops attached to NATO's International Security Assistance Force in the north of Afghanistan. NATO allies have been pressing German to boost its commitment.
