The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency says a military attack on Iran over its nuclear programme could turn the entire Middle East into what he described as a fireball.
Mohamed ElBaradei made the comment in an interview with the Arab broadcaster Al Arabiya. He also said that should such an attack be launched, he would resign from his post as director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He was reacting to a report in the New York Times that said that a recent major Israeli military exercise was believed to have been a test run for a potential strike against Tehran's nuclear facilities. The manoeuvres reportedly took place in late May and mid-June over the Mediterranean Sea and Greece and involved more than 100 Israeli fighter jets.
