At least 18 people have been injured when intense clashes between the supporters of Lebanon's majority and the Shiite Hezbollah-led opposition broke out in Tripoli.
Security sources said the clashes occurred in a Sunni area some 80 kilometres north of Beirut. The clashes came as Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora intensifies his efforts to form a national unity government, in the wake of a long-running political standoff. Lebanon was on the brink of civil war, when similar clashes occurred before a deal was sealed in Qatar to elect a new Lebanese president in May.
