The US military says its forces killed more than 55 militants and wounded 25 others in multiple operations in Afghanistan over the weekend.
The US military said in a statement that a US-led coalition patrol called in ground and air support during an ambush in the Zerok district of the eastern province of Paktika near the Pakistan border. Meanwhile hundreds of villagers gathered in town in the eastern province of Nangarhar to protest the deaths of the two civilians on Sunday. US forces say they were conducting an operation against a militant group when they hit a villagers' house by mistake, killing a man and his four-year old son.
